Step 2 – Who are the key stakeholders?

Once you have defined the project aims, it’s time to identify the project stakeholders.

These are peeople who can influence the outcome of your project. There are two key groups of stakeholders:

  1. Internal stakeholders − people or groups from within your organisation such as team members and managers.
  2. External stakeholders − people, partners or groups outside of your organisation including service users, customers, suppliers, subject matter experts and funding bodies.

You need to identify who the key stakeholders are and start a conversation with them. Tell them about the project and what you hope to achieve. Ask for their input, understand their expectations and find out how they can contribute.

Gaining support from key stakeholders at this early stage will help ensure your project is a success.
