Step 1 – Evaluate performance

Before closing out your project, your team needs to meet its goals (or determine, along with key stakeholders, that those goals no longer apply).

Compare your progress with the original plan and consider your overall performance. Be honest but also remember not to focus only on the problems. In any project there are positives and negatives and it is important that we take a balanced view. Share your findings with the project stakeholders (using the final project status report) and make sure you reach consensus with them on how ‘finished’ the project is.
