We celebrated NAIDOC week with this years theme ‘For Our Elders’. Our team had the privilege of chatting with Elders across the many events.
Cath Daly who did a fantastic job at coordinating the Bellambi Neighbourhood Centre NAIDOC celebration shared a powerful statement that resonated with our team – “every time we lose an elder, we lose a library”.
Aboriginal Elder Colleen shared her thoughts on the Shoalhaven NAIDOC fun day with us. “My name is Colleen. I have come from the Shoalhaven area. I was asked to raise the flag today in honor of my Dad who started all this NADOIC many years ago”.
“I think its a beautiful day today I am so happy to see all the community out gathering. Yeah so I met a lot of family, I have a lot of family here today. It’s a good day” Colleen shared.
At the Shellharbour City Council NAIDOC event Uncle G did a wonderful Welcome to Country and invited us all to be cleansed during the smoking ceremony. Uncle Richard urged us all to stand up and speak out for the #VoiceToParliament.
We want to thank our Aboriginal Elders and celebrate their lives, experiences and wisdom.
