Welcome to the Community Industry Group Support Hub

Lockdowns, ongoing uncertainty and financial stress, due to COVID-19, are causing hardship for many people in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern NSW.

Community Industry Group have created a Support Hub to help our members spread the word about what they need or how they can help.

SUPPORT HUB FEATURE MEMBER

Age Matters provide short term assistance for older people who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness.

They are seeking donations of the following items:

  • Non-perishable food items in small sizes e.g. noodles, pasta, tinned vegetables, baked beans, rice, long life milk, fruit cups, biscuits, coffee, tea and sugar
  • Toiletries and hygiene products including masks, individual hand sanitisers, toilet paper, toothpaste, body wash etc
  • Laundry powder
  • Continence pads/large pull ups
  • Walking frames, shower chairs, toilet surrounds/frame etc
  • Curtains and curtain rods
  • Supermarket gift cards $20-$50 each
  • Small key safes
  • Crosswords, puzzle books and adult colouring-in books
  • Jigsaw puzzles

Help Age Matters

Help Age Matters to provide sort term assistance for older people who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness in NSW.

Illawarra Women’s Health Centre

Illawarra Women’s Health Centre provides free or low-cost and affordable medical, allied and complementary health care as well as health and well-being programs, groups and education to improve women’s health.

Illawarra Women’s Health Centre also offer social support groups, Domestic and Family Violence Support and case work.

They are currently in need of donations to assist with increased demand on their services.

Items that would be of most help include:

  • Gift cards (Woolworths or Coles for groceries) or Visa Gift Cards that can be used to help pay bills
  • Petrol cards
  • Opal cards
  • SIM cards (pre-paid data from Optus, Telstra or Aldi)
  • Feminine hygiene products including pads, tampons, period undies, liners and incontinence pads/underwear

Help Illawarra Women’s Health Centre continue to provide vital services assisting women in our region.

Wollongong Meals on Wheels

Wollongong Meals on Wheels are seeking more volunteers to help get meals to people in the Illawarra. Currently there is a need for delivery drivers, meal packers and management committee members.

Delivery Driver: This role assists with delivery of hot meals to clients from Monday to Friday 11.15am to 1.00pm. Your own transport is required.

Meal Packing Assistants: This role involves packing frozen meal bundles for clients and restocking of freezers.

Meals are still being delivered during lockdown following a COVID safe plan with procedures in place to protect the staff, volunteers and the community.

Volunteers are required to undertake online training and to pass a police check, which is completed in house by Wollongong Meals on Wheels.

Green Connect

Green Connect is a not-for-profit social enterprise that employs young people and former refugees.

In response to the COVID-19 lockdown, Green Connect launched tailored care packages from their op shop, and fruit and vegetable boxes from their farm, to help those in need in the Illawarra.

In less than three weeks Green Connect have had over 400 donations and 560 requests for help. They are running out of key items to keep families warm, children engaged and people fed.

How you can help:

  • Green Connect are seeking $40 donations to get a care package or vegetable box to someone in need. Click here for more information.
  • Green Connect are seeking donations of specific items including blankets, kid’s winter clothes and shoes, kids games and puzzles, winter pyjamas, men’s jumpers and toiletries. Full a full list of donation needs click here.

Pick Up Only

Due to the lockdown residents are currently unable to drop donation items to the op shop. However, Green Connect staff can come and pick these items up from you in a safe manner, wearing masks, using hand sanitiser during contactless pick-ups (you leave your items at your front door).
